THE ART OF CONJECTURE by Bertrand de Jouvenal (1967)
Theoretical background in thinking about the future.
FOUNDATION OF FUTURE STUDIES by Wendell Bell (1997)
These two books (Volumes I and II) collect the thinking and conclusions of a number of writers in futures studies.
THE ART OF THE LONG VIEW by Peter Schwartz (1991)
The classic book on scenario planning. Although this book deals largely with scenarios for large organizations, the underlying principles still apply to personal futures.
CREATING YOUR OWN FUTURE by George Morrisey (1992)
Personal strategic planning. Morrisey does not build personal strategic planning on scenarios, but adapts accepted business approaches and applies them to individuals.
THE FUTURE IS OURS by Graham May (1996)
The sub-title for this book is “Foreseeing, Managing and Creating the Future” and May offers guidance in each of these areas.

The World Future Studies Federation is an international organization of futurists. Their web site is www.wfsf.org.

The World Future Society publishes the "Futurist". "Futures Research Quarterly" and "Future Survey" as well as numerous books. WFS also holds annual conventions, last July in Toronto, next year in Minneapolis. The WFS site is www.wfs.org which also includes a bookstore of futures literature.

The Association of Professional Futurists has a worldwide membership of consultants, writers, researchers, academics and other professionals working in all areas related to the future. Below are a few sites that explore the future. SHAPING TOMORROW is a membership site, but offers a trial period. JOE COATES makes available many articles he has written and The ARLINGTON INSTITUTE offers an excellent newsletter about the future.The VISION CENTER FOR FUTURES CREATION in Sweden offers a course in personal futures. The site is in English and Swedish. THE FUTURES NETWORK in Salt Lake City offers Personal Futures Workshops as well as Futures consulting for businesses of all sizes.

The oldest university program in Studies of the Future is at the University of Houston in Texas, and awards a Master of Science in Studies of the Future to graduates. Formerly located at the Clear Lake branch of the University of Houston, the program recently moved to the main campus. The University of Houston is now offering a number of Futures courses on line.
